The Reading Room of WBP

The Reading Room of WBP

In this tab you will find important information about the rules for using the collections and services offered in the WBP Reading Room.

General rules for using WBP collections on the spot - in the Reading Room - are defined by the Rules and Regulations of WBP UJ.

An active WBP library account entitles the user to use the Reading Room. Activation of the library account is done in the Lending Room.

Upon entering the Reading Room, the Reader registers at the desk of the librarian on duty with a valid library card or student ID.

Readers are welcome to enter the Reading Room without outer garments or bags, which can be left in the checkroom or locker. The key to a personal locker is given to the reader at registration, and returned at the end of using the Reading Room.

Books brought in with you must be reported to the librarian on duty.

In the Reading Room we offer:

  • Computers with access to the library catalog and databases of the Jagiellonian University, as well as to the Academica system - a digital lending library for books and journals from the National Library's collection.
Free Internet access via the University's WiFi network (for those with an account in the @uj.edu.pl domain) or via the international academic WiFi network - Eduroam (see https://pomocit.uj.edu.pl/wifi for details).
  • Facilities for Readers with Special Needs
  • Possibility of independent free scanning for personal use of materials from the collection of our Library. Users are asked to inform the librarian of their intention to use the scanner. Instructions for the use of scanners equipped with OCR mechanism and rules for scanning are available on site in the Reading Room.
It is allowed to photograph library materials with your own devices for private use.

The collections located in the Reading Room are divided into:

journals – arranged in alphabetical order by title

books - arranged by WBP's own departmental layout

The collection is arranged in 4 zones:

  • novelties,
  • handy book collection (older, most frequently used publications),
  • book collection of libraries of foreign law schools (German, American, Austrian, French, Ukrainian, Slovak, British, Library of the School of Arbitration and ADR),
  • field legal systems.

The collections gathered in the Reading Room are made available on free access: The reader independently selects items for himself from the shelves and can use them.

A significant part of WBP's book collections is stored in warehouses. These collections are also made available to Readers, after they have been ordered. Orders should be placed electronically, via https://katalogi.uj.edu.pl and on paper reverses in the case of books from WBP's "old stock" (i.e. published before 1951), whose descriptions have not yet been entered into the computer system and are recorded only in the card catalog. The WBP card catalogs are located in a separate room of the Library, next to the Lending Library.

Orders are processed in real time, every 30 minutes. When the order is fulfilled, the Reader receives system information to the e-mail address. Last orders must be placed one hour before the Reading Room closes. Late orders are processed on the next working day.

Five volumes of works can be ordered from the warehouses to the Reading Room at one time. If the Reader has used up the limit of accesses, orders for subsequent ones can be placed only after returning all or part of the volumes used by the Reader.

Items ordered from the storehouse are returned by the Reader after using them to the librarian on duty to remove the loan from the account. At the Reader's request, it is possible to reserve a work ordered from the warehouse if he/she would like to use it on subsequent days without reordering. Books located on site in the Reading Room are not reserved.

Books and magazines located in the Reading Room and in the library storerooms are made available only on the spot.

Only employees of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration, in cases justified by didactic or scientific reasons, are allowed to borrow needed items outside the Library for a period of one week or for another period agreed upon with the Reading Room employee.
